Writing resources I highly recommend:

There are dozens, if not hundreds of great sites, articles and videos out there to help writers improve. Here are a few links that have made a big difference in my writing career, I hope they bring you all the same inspiration I've enjoyed from their words and advice.

Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch are two of my biggest 'go to' people when I have questions concerning publishing or writing. Not only do they offer dozens of chapters on writing as a free resource ( posted on their web sites) to help writers meet their potential, but they offer lectures and workshops on a variety of topics if you want to develop a specific skill. As 'Indie' authors, a lot of their advice focuses on teaching writers how to budget their finances, design their own covers and market their own work.

Some of their latest projects are Think Like a Publisher, Killing the Sacred Cows of Publishing, Discover-ability Series, and the Freelancer's Survival Guide.

Writing Excuses is a wonderful resource from the 'traditional' publishing side of writing. They offer hundreds of hours in fifteen-minute posts on every topic from improving your craft, marketing approaches, working with editors and securing publishing contracts with traditional publishing houses. Since one of my favorite fantasy authors, Brandon Sanderson, often participates, its another resource I love to tap into.

TED Talk - Chip Kidd: Designing books is no laughing matter. OK, it is - If you're considering designing your own book covers or want to peek into that aspect of the publishing world, this talk by Chip Kidd is a fantastic video to understand the process behind designing a book cover. This is the guy who designed the Jurassic Park book cover (yes, it was a book before it became a movie) and he even describes the process behind it. Enjoy!
